How We Met

Taken from our visa application: We first met on the August 4th, 2019 at Sibling Cafe in Carlton North after we both moved into 942 Lygon Street where one of our housemates was introducing us to each other. We lived together and grew closer as friends as we spent more and more time together up until I went back to Seattle to see friends and family for Christmas in December. While I was away until mid January, we messaged (90% baby yoda memes) each other multiple times a day for the entire time. After I arrived back in Australia on the 14th of January we continued to spend most our time together up until the 23rd of January where we confessed to each other how we were both interested in each other and had our first kiss. The next day on the 24th we decided to start dating. After a few days we told the rest of our housemates that we were dating... though they saw it coming before we did.

Our Engagement

09/17/23

In August 2023 we flew to Europe for a 6 week adventure travelling by train we visited Spain, South of France, Italy, and Germany. It was an amazing trip and our time in Civita di Bagnoregio was a highlight. Civita is a small hilltop village in Italy which is only accessible by footpath and inhabited by 16 people. It was founded by the Etruscans 2,500 years ago (which made Allie's Anthropological brain very happy) and is known as the dying city because, due an unfortunate combination of geological factors it is slowing eroding. We stayed at a picturesque accomodation located on the cliffside of Civita with such unreal views of the Valle dei Calanchi that we couldn't pass up waking up just before sunrise one morning. Matt was planning on proposing in Europe, he was just waiting for the right time. What a more perfect time than during an incredible sunrise in Italy? The proposal was however slightly delayed when a stray cat showed up and broke into our accomodation. We named him Stinkey (he was not smelly) and he became our house cat for the remainder of our visit. Eventually we made our way back to looking at the sunset. Matt: I really love travelling and adventuring with you, and I want to do it for the rest of my life. Will you marry me? (something like that, idk we both blacked-out) Allie *starts spinning in circles and won't stay still making Matt get up off his knee to hold me still and ask again* The answer was obviously yes.
